Lightning Gems Slot Review – More Wilds Than You Can Imagine
Lightning Gems is a slot from NextGen that came out just a few months ago. It’s a fairly simple and straightforward game, using the popular theme of gems. Unlike other similar slots, however, this one is full of electricity, but is by no means static. The beautiful visual effects and crackling audio effects make this slot as beautiful as it is exciting to play.
Lightning Gems slot has 5 reels and 10 paylines that pay both ways. There are eight base symbols in the game, a wild symbol and a scatter. All the symbols depict a gem of some kind, the round ones being higher than the card suit-shaped ones. The gameplay is relatively fast and exciting, mostly because of the special features that occur very frequently.
The game offers wide betting range from 15p to £150. As a result, the game should appeal to most players. It doesn’t offer huge multipliers or features resulting in crazy returns, but you can still win up to £50,000. That makes it a medium variance slot with a balance between frequent and big wins.
There are quite a lot of wilds in Lightning Gems slot. Usually, these wilds come in stacks and they’re available on each reel as well. If that wasn’t enough, there’s a nudge feature in the base game. Every time a wild stack lands just outside of the reel, it will nudge the other symbols and move into the reel. This greatly increases the chance of winning and will occur every two to four spins on average.
There’s also ‘Wild Wins’ feature, adding some wilds randomly over the symbols during any spin. This feature isn’t nearly as frequent, but still relatively easy to get for a medium variance slot like this one. And if you thought that there isn’t enough of wilds, just wait for the bonus round.
Three scatter symbols of lightning gems will reward 10 extra spins. During these spins, 10 additional wilds will be added to each reel, which means 50 extra wilds in total. You can actually see the difference when the reels are spinning, sometimes almost filling the screen with wilds. Of course, seeing them all land on the reels is a different story, but multiple stacked wilds are to be expected.
The previously mentioned ‘Wild Wins’ and nudge features are available during the bonus round as well. As you can see, wilds are really the focus on Lightning Gems slot. Excluding the scatter, they’re the highest paying symbols too, so that’s where all the wins come from. On the other hand, the regular symbols are quite petty without any wilds around.
As already mentioned, the game has amazing visual effects, especially when lightning is involved. All the symbols are sparkling with energy when they win. All the elements of the game look as if charged too. The soundtrack isn’t very memorable, but that’s a good thing too, because it doesn’t get tiresome and repetitive unlike with many other games.
Just like all NextGen games made in the recent years, Lightning Gems slot runs perfectly. Whether you use autoplay or speed each spin manually, the performance stays smooth and steady. The only issue is that there’s no quick play function and if you want to play faster, doing so manually will be more effective than on autoplay. That’s just a minor issue, however, as there are no serious drawbacks to mention at all.
Albeit being a relatively simple game, there is one unique feature that will make you remember this game. It’s wilds – more wilds than you can imagine. All the features are wild-related and the best wins will come because of them. True, many games have this type of symbols, but very few have so many of them. So, if you like them, it’s going to be one of your favourite slots.
Lightning Gems is a perfect example of a NextGen slot – it’s simple but well-made and highly lucrative. While slots with gems for symbols isn’t a new idea at all, playing this slot will be very exciting nonetheless. We’d easily give this slot solid three stars, though players who love wilds will definitely disagree. If you’re one of them, this title is a must-play.
